About the Authors
Joan
Kent Dillon, a longtime Cape Cod resident, initiated this project in 2002, researching
barns all over Cape Cod, MA. Over 300 historic barns of all shapes and sizes were located on Cape Cod during the four years of research and photography for this book.
Joan Dillon spent many childhood years growing up on Cape Cod. Her parents, Richard and Gladys Kent, owned Whalewalk
Farm in Orleans, MA in the early 1930's. The original Whalewalk barn
still exists and has now been converted into living quarters in a guesthouse Whalewalk Inn. There are many other
original barns, in various states of repair, all over Cape Cod.
The major photography
for this book was shot by New York photographer Blandon Belushin.
Please visit his website www.BlandonBelushin.com for more information about his other work.
Kent C. Dillon assisted with logistics, pre-press production, copy and additional photography.

This old photo (above)
of the original barn is where the Dillons currently live in North Chatham, MA.
It looks considerably different, having been added onto over the years. But
the original barn frame is still underneath. The concrete stoop where the barn
door slid open remains, as does the horse watering trough, near the wooden shed
to the left. Pleasant Bay and Strong Island are in the background, and the saltwater
tidal marsh is behind the barn, to the back and left. (click photo to see larger.)
